Dianthus caryophyllus is a loosely tufted, woody perennial with flattened, soft mid-green leaves up to 15cm long with conspicuous sheaths. It produces loose cymes, 5cm across, containing 1-5 strongly fragrant, single, toothed, bright pink-purple flowers up to 1.5cm across, borne on stiff stems in summer. Also known as clove pink, Dianthus caryophyllus, flowering plants, seasonals, and carnation.
