During the season it can produce large and showy flowers in shades of pink, white or red that open in long succession all summer long. One of the world's most amazing plants, it makes a thick, fleshy trunk, swollen at the base, the spreading branches bearing dark green, thick, pointed leaves. Upright, succulent brown branches produce ovate, grey-green leaves, to 10cm long.
