Often called the Black Olive Tree, Bucida buceras is a stunning evergreen known for its dense, dark green foliage and smooth trunk. Native to the upper Florida Keys, this tree isn’t related to the edible olive but does produce small black seed capsules. Its strong, wind-resistant branches form a pyramidal shape when young and develop into a broad, rounded crown with age, making it an excellent feature for large gardens and landscapes.
Leaves are leathery and dark bluish-green, growing in clusters at the tips of the branches. Occasionally, you’ll find short spines along the branches as well. A striking tree that grows beautifully in warm climates and adds graceful structure to any outdoor space.
