Petunias are herbaceous perennials commonly grown as annuals and are among the most popular flowering plants worldwide. Modern petunias are hybrids developed from species such as Petunia axillaris, P. violacea, and P. inflata.
Petunias are generally classified into two types:
-
Grandiflora: large-flowered varieties with trailing, spreading stems and blooms reaching up to 5 in (13 cm) in diameter.
-
Multiflora: many-flowered varieties that produce abundant, smaller blooms and offer excellent garden performance.
Known for their colourful, long-lasting display, petunias are ideal for beds, borders, containers, and hanging baskets.
